LOOKING FOR EUROPA
In the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, just two hours off the coast of the Lazio region, lies a small island - less an island than a great rock rising from the water:
Ventotene. More than eighty years ago, a group of exiled thinkers on this island began shaping an idea: a vision of a united Europe, created to overcome war and conflict. This vision would later become known as the Ventotene Manifesto.
Today, as Europe faces a state of emergency - marked by COVID-19, Brexit, and the rise of anti-European movements—six young activists from the founding countries of the European Union, joined by a representative from the United Kingdom, arrive on the island of Ventotene. Drawing inspiration from the work of French artist Daniel Buren (A Colorful Poster) and the legacy of Altiero Spinelli, they come to the island to search for what the European Union of the future might become.
Looking for Europa was presented at the Ventotene Film Festival, at a press event at the Venice Film Festival, and at the Italy on screen today NY – Movies&TvSeries Fest in New York.
