Nordic Wedding Practices

When you are getting married in Scandinavia, it is important to pay attention to some of the quirkier cultures. We asked bridal planner Mariella Gink to supply us the lowdown on some of Sweden’s special norms.

Before spouses in Viking instances, the bride would consider a bath to cleanse herself and figuratively soak absent her female. Then she would bounce into warm fluids to depict the shift into femininity. Her hair was also a big deal. She may sew it into complex tresses to reflect her sexuality, and the more complicated her locks were, the better it boded for the pair. The grooms may use a tunic and trousers made of wool or cloth. They did furthermore hold their swords.

In Norse traditions, it was common for people to send each of their visitors home with products. This is a custom that carries on today. It is common to see a gift registration at Swedish mail order brides from iceland marriages, but it’s not the norm to receive big economic contributions, as most people can afford to get themselves a manifest.

After the ceremony, it’s time to enjoy! Swedish weddings are known for their long, complex meal functions. The evening may include from eight to 12 statements, screenings of films from the bachelor and bachelorette parties, games and songs. A friend of the couple is usually designated master of ceremonies to coordinate all the entertainment.

Another quirky Scandinavian wedding tradition is that whenever the groom or bride leaves a room for any reason, other men will line up to kiss them. This is one of our favorite things to capture on camera as a photographer because it’s so funny!
